Who Are Non-Christian Americans? Data from the 2025 PRRI Census of American Religion

According to the 2025 PRRI Census of American Religion, less than one in ten Americans (6%) identify as non-Christian, including Jewish Americans, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Unitarian Universalists, and members of other non-Christian religions.

The majority of non-Christians hold a college degree (53%), compared with 40% of white Christians, 37% of religiously unaffiliated Americans, and 28% of Christians of color. Non-Christians also have a lower median age (45) than white Christians (56), but higher than unaffiliated Americans (41). They do not differ from Christians of color (46). There are key differences among the religious groups that make up the non-Christian population.
