With 60% of Georgia independents supporting abortion legality, GOP Senate candidate Mike Collins’ abortion stance may hurt his chances of winning in November.
In the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia holds a lead over his Republican challenger, Rep. Mike Collins. A recent POLITICO article suggests that Collins was close to losing President Donald Trump’s endorsement over Collins’ hardline abortion stance. According to POLITICO, while Collins called himself “100 percent pro-life” in 2022, on the campaign trail more recently, he said he supports “Georgia’s heartbeat law, which includes exceptions.”
Views Towards Abortion Legality in Georgia
Just under six in ten Georgia residents believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases (59%). This puts Georgia roughly in line with the 61% of all Americans who support abortion legality. Almost all Democrats in Georgia (92%) support abortion legality, compared with a minority of Republicans (36%). Notably, six in ten Georgia independents support abortion legality (60%), voters that Ossoff and Collins are both trying to win in November.
