The Trump administration is using footage of street clashes and testimony from MAGA-aligned reporters and podcasters to depict Democratic-led cities as scenes of unrest. President Donald Trump has focused on Portland, Ore., calling it “war-ravaged” — a claim local officials dispute, noting that most demonstrations have been peaceful.

PRRI’s 2024 American Values Atlas finds that 72% of Portland-area residents hold an unfavorable view of Trump, with 38% identifying as liberal, more than 10 points higher than the national average (27%).

According to PRRI survey data, 6% of Americans identify as “exvangelicals” — people who have left evangelicalism, whether by joining other Christian traditions, adopting non-Christian beliefs, or leaving religion altogether.

White unaffiliated exvangelicals are more than 10 percentage points more likely than all white unaffiliated Americans to cite negative religious teachings about or treatment of gay and lesbian people as a reason for leaving their religion (58% vs. 47%). 12% of white evangelicals identify as members of the LGBTQ community, compared to 14% of all exvangelicals and 9% of all Americans.
