Upcoming Survey of Millennials Finds Support for Obama has Increased Among 18-25 Year Olds Since March

WASHINGTON — With only a month to go until the 2012 presidential election, a new survey scheduled for release on Thursday, October 4, at 10:30 a.m. EDT at Georgetown University finds that support among college-age Millennials (Americans age 18-25) for President Barack Obama has increased since the first wave of the survey in March 2012. However, despite the uptick in support for the President, the new survey finds that their level of engagement in the 2012 election campaign remains relatively low.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and former Washington Post reporter Laura Sessions Stepp will join Daniel Cox, Public Religion Research Institute research director, and moderator Dr. Thomas Banchoff, director of Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs, to discuss the survey’s key findings, including how comfortable younger Millennials are with presidents of different religious backgrounds and how different they think Obama and Mitt Romney’s religious beliefs are from their own. The new survey is a follow up to a study released earlier this year by Public Religion Research Institute and Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs.

Digging deeper into the findings from March, the new PRRI and Berkley Center survey also delves into issues of race and views of affirmative action programs, as well as factors influencing voter engagement, attitudes toward government and important issues in the 2012 election, such as Social Security, health care and taxes.
