According to the 2023 PRRI American Values Atlas, compared with 2016, the size of the LGBTQ population has more than doubled from 4% to 10%. In 2016, the state with the highest proportion of LGBTQ residents was Nevada (7%). With the exception of six states, most states matched or surpassed this percentage in 2023.
